For 2020, the reading goal I have set for myself is 24 books. This is the same goal as 2019 because I didn’t meet my 2019 goal.
A Highlander is Coming To Town by Laura Trentham

What a great read! I was looking for a book to take my mind off of the troubles of today and this one hit the spot. This is book 3 in a trilogy, I didn’t know that before reading – which means you don’t HAVE to read them in order!
Claire “Smythe” (in quotes because you KNOW that isn’t really her last name!) is a dynamic character who tugs at your heart strings. She is a kind soul who is looking for her path in life and really just trying to figure out what she wants to be when she grows up. She takes a job with Ms. Meadows (now, there’s a story I would love to read!!!) who is grumpy and stiff at first and softens as their relationship develops. If Claire can soften Ms. Meadows… she can do ANYTHING! I love that kind of character!
In walks Holt…. a kid who stayed home to help run the family farm turned into a man running the family farm. He falls head over heels for Claire… BUT… Claire’s secret… well, it may keep them apart…. will he let it? You’ll have to read to find out! HA!
The fact that this is a Christmas novel is an afterthought. There are references to Christmas but it could easily have been set at any other time of the year and still worked, so don’t let that deter you from reading it!!
This is a great quick read and I highly recommend it! I was provided an advanced reader copy of this book by NetGalley at no fee.
Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Colgan
This book was sweet and funny book about friendship, believing in yourself enough to pursue your dream, and of course a little romance thrown in! I listened to this book on Audible and the reader is FABULOUS!!
Heartless by Mary Balogh
Mary Balogh is one of my favorite regency romance writers. This book was a great story. A heroine who is being blackmailed and a hero who was disinherited and had to make his own way in the world bring the story line in and the twists the author brings into the story keeps you hooked to the end! I definitely recommend ANY book by Mary Balogh!
Roommates Wanted by Lisa Jewell

This book was kind of slow to start – don’t give up on it!! IT GETS SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!! The relationships between Toby and his “tenants” is tumultuous at best. I thought this book was going to be about that, but it is really about a guy who is lost finding himself, learning to stand up for himself, open up to others and embrace life to the fullest. I loved the little side stories of the residents of the house, and would love to have a follow up of some of the stories – Con, Melinda, and Johanna for sure – Ruby …eh…I could leave her story behind. I got annoyed with her easily and that is exactly what the author meant to happen!
This book was definitely worth the listen, the reader is wonderful and adds to the experience! I listened to this book on Audible.
The Secret of the Chateau by Kathleen McGurl
This is my first book by Kathleen McGurl and I must say, she has a new fan in me! This book has the best of both worlds, a story set in revolutionary France in the late 1700s as well as a modern day story. McGurl’s method of entwining the two tales kept me wanting to read more and I was sad when the last page was turned and I had to let the characters go.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley.
